Portuguese police name suspect in threat against Prime Minister's home
A 24-year-old Brazilian student living in Portugal has been named a formal suspect following allegations that he incited violence against the home of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro. The incident occurred during a housing rights protest at an encampment in Porto's Praça D. João I.
According to police reports and video footage, the individual allegedly urged a crowd to find the Prime Minister's address and throw a brick at his residence, stating that peaceful methods were no longer sufficient. The footage was circulated on social media and subsequently shared by the Prime Minister's office.
The Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) intercepted the man in Porto, and he was subsequently released under a Termo de Identidade e Residência (TIR), a measure requiring him to remain locatable and appear before authorities as requested. The Public Prosecution Service is investigating the case as public incitement to a crime, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to three years under the Portuguese Penal Code.
