Portuguese police protest for salary increases

Police officers from the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) held a protest in Lisbon to demand effective salary increases starting in January 2027. Approximately one hundred officers gathered in front of the Ministry of Internal Administration, accusing the government of stalling negotiations and lacking concrete proposals.

Leaders of the ASPP/PSP and APG/GNR unions criticized the government for what they described as a “passing the buck” tactic to delay wage adjustments. César Nogueira, president of the APG/GNR, stated that professionals are currently losing approximately 250 euros per month, claiming the state is saving millions at the expense of these workers.

The protesters expressed urgency, calling for a defined policy within one month to align with the approval of the 2027 State Budget. Following the demonstration at Terreiro do Paço, the group marched toward the Lisbon City Council.
