Portuguese police record 1,100 arrests and 13,000 traffic violations in one week

Portuguese security forces, including the PSP and GNR, have conducted extensive operations resulting in over 1,100 arrests and more than 13,000 traffic violations across the country in a single week. During this period, the PSP recorded 980 accidents that resulted in three deaths.

Of the total arrests, the PSP accounted for 548, including 294 related to road crimes such as driving without a license or under the influence of alcohol. The GNR carried out 564 arrests. Beyond traffic enforcement, authorities seized various weapons, ammunition, and over 600 individual doses of drugs during their operations.

In the Vila Franca de Xira region, the PSP's Traffic Squad reported 26 arrests and 1,406 traffic violations over a six-month period, following 52 enforcement operations.
