Portuguese police unions demand political support for internal administration negotiations

Police unions in Portugal are demanding that Prime Minister Luís Montenegro either provide the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, with the political support necessary to negotiate or replace him. During a protest in Faro involving members of the PSP and GNR, ASPP president Paulo Santos claimed the government is failing to honor a 2024 agreement regarding salary adjustments, career statutes, and supplements.

In response, Minister Luís Neves stated that the government remains committed to the 2024 agreement and the Government Program. He emphasized the need to prioritize the valorization of officers working on the front lines. Neves also announced plans to implement a new organizational model that utilizes civilian workers for administrative tasks, allowing police officers to focus more on active duty and public protection.
