Portuguese police unions warn of demotivation over salary disputes
Police unions in Portugal are warning of potential unrest and demotivation due to ongoing disputes over wages and working conditions. The National Union of PSP Chiefs (SNCC) expressed that while they remain open to negotiating with the government, they are waiting for proposals that address the specific needs and expectations of police officers.
Simultaneously, the Association of Police Professionals (ASPP/PSP) has criticized the 2027 State Budget, arguing that a projected 2.3% salary increase is insufficient. The association claims this figure only tracks predicted inflation and fails to compensate for the loss of purchasing power experienced in 2026. The ASPP/PSP is demanding a safeguard clause to adjust salaries if inflation exceeds planned increases, alongside a revision of service and risk supplements and professional career structures to prevent staff departures.
