Portuguese political parties focus on policy and opposition strategies
The political party Livre is holding a political gathering in Porto titled ‘Os Setembristas’ to focus on preparing party cadres and presenting concrete policy proposals. Secretary-General Tomás Cardoso Pereira stated the party aims to offer ‘serious and deep proposals’ to address national issues such as housing, healthcare, and education, while positioning itself as an alternative to the current PSD/CDS-PP government.
Simultaneously, tensions remain high within the Portuguese political landscape following a motion of censure presented by the Chega party. Socialist Party (PS) deputy Miguel Costa Matos criticized the current government's handling of internal administration issues and expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Luís Montenegro’s leadership. While the PS opted to abstain from the recent motion of censure, internal debates continue regarding the government's response to the cost of living and the performance of specific ministers.
