Portuguese schools join Electrão recycling campaign

The Electrão Association of Waste Management is running the 15th edition of its Escola Electrão campaign, encouraging schools to collect used batteries, lamps and electrical equipment for recycling. Points earned based on quantities collected are converted into prize checks – for every 100 kg of batteries or lamps, or 1,000 kg of equipment, schools receive a voucher.

Three schools in Tomar, Santarém district – Jardim Escola João de Deus (two locations) and Escola Secundária de Santa Maria do Olival – have registered for the programme. Additionally, eighteen schools across the Vila Real district, including Escola Básica de Pedras Salgadas, Escola Secundária Camilo Castelo Branco, Escola Profissional de Desenvolvimento Rural do Rodo and several others, are also participating. The campaign aims to boost nationwide recycling by involving the educational community and offers a website (ondereciclar.pt) to locate participating schools.

Electrão manages a network of more than 13,600 collection points for waste such as packaging, batteries and electrical equipment throughout Portugal, and the school initiative is part of its broader effort to increase recycling rates.
