Portuguese social institutions organize travel initiatives for residents

Social inclusion initiatives in Portugal have provided residents of support institutions with opportunities for travel and new experiences.

In the Azores, 29 young people from a São Miguel-based care institution traveled to the islands of Terceira, Graciosa, and Pico. Funded through local fundraising efforts such as raffles and sales, the initiative allowed participants to experience air travel, visit new locations, and explore regional gastronomy. Some participants experienced flying for the first time, with the trip to Terceira including support from local entities like Casa do Gaiato for accommodation and transport.

In Viseu, residents from APPACDM’s Casas do Xico participated in a week-long holiday at Praia da Areia Branca. Supported by the IDIPD financing program, the group engaged in activities including surfing, visiting Bacalhôa Buddha Eden, and exploring Peniche and Óbidos. The program aimed to promote autonomy and social interaction through leisure and contact with new environments.
