Portuguese sports: Football club admission and Mediterranean Games mission

The football club União 1.º de Dezembro has been officially admitted into the 2026/2027 Campeonato de Portugal following a ruling by the South Central Administrative Court. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) confirmed the decision via an official communiqué, noting that the club will participate as a “Clube A Designar” until the competition series are finalized. This judicial decision also impacts the Taça de Portugal, where the Sintra-based club is scheduled to face Real SC on August 30.

In other sports news, Portugal has presented its mission for the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. The national delegation will consist of 168 athletes competing across 30 disciplines. Led by João Rodrigues, the team includes several returning champions and Olympic athletes, such as swimmer Camila Rebelo, as the country aims to improve upon its previous performances in the competition.
