Portuguese television audiences show SIC leadership and RTP growth
Television audience data for Portugal indicates that SIC maintains its position as the market leader in both total daily share and prime time, holding a 14% total share and 15.7% during prime time. However, SIC and TVI both experienced declines in viewership compared to September.
RTP was the only generalist channel to show growth in October, increasing its average audience in both total day and prime time slots. In recent weekly data, SIC and TVI reached an equal average share of 13.1%, with TVI recovering through various editions of ‘Big Brother’ and SIC finding success with the soap opera ‘Destino Maior’.
In cable television, CMTV continues to lead the market. Programming such as football coverage and news regarding protests in Lisbon and Porto contributed to high viewership across various channels.
