Portuguese tourism entities propose economic measures and regional support

The National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAV) has proposed ten measures for the 2027 State Budget aimed at boosting tourism. The association estimates these proposals could generate approximately €1.1 billion in business volume over three years, contributing €358.4 million in Gross Value Added, €698.7 million in exports, and creating or protecting 3,671 jobs. Key proposals include creating a Tourism Distribution Account to track sector data, ensuring fiscal neutrality between agencies and direct sales, and enhancing digitalization and cybersecurity. ANAV also advocates for public support for new airline routes to be contingent on proven demand.

In the Azores, economic and associative agents are calling for immediate intervention from Turismo de Portugal to recover tourism demand. Local groups, including the Azores Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Azores Local Accommodation Association, are demanding increased international promotion and the mobilization of national resources to boost the region's competitiveness. They specifically highlighted the need to increase air capacity and attract low-cost carriers to the region, particularly during the low season, to improve accessibility and stimulate demand.
