Portuguese tourism revenue projected to reach 30 billion euros in 2026

The Portuguese tourism sector is projected to reach 30 billion euros in revenue in 2026, representing a 3% increase from the previous year. According to a survey by the Associação da Hotelaria de Portugal (AHP), total revenues could reach 7.4 billion euros, with overnight stays expected to exceed 83 million.

Despite these national growth projections, the hospitality sector in the Greater Lisbon region is experiencing a slowdown. The AHP reports that Lisbon has seen a decline in both occupancy rates and average room prices. This downturn is attributed to an excess of supply and significant bottlenecks at the Humberto Delgado Airport, exacerbated by the implementation of new European entry and exit systems which caused long wait times.

In Lisbon, the occupancy rate fell by 2 percentage points to 82%, and the average room price saw a slight decrease of 1% to 173 euros. In contrast, the Algarve remains a high-value region, with the average price per room exceeding 200 euros.
