Portuguese towns launch free summer sports and wellness programs

The Faro municipality announced its "Verão Ativo 2026" initiative, a free summer program running from 6 July to 28 August at Praia de Faro. The project offers daily Pilates, senior fitness, and evening "Sunset Fit" sessions, plus weekend activities such as guided walks and surprise classes, in partnership with local clubs including Know‑How, Judo Clube de Faro and SIZE Fitness Boutique.

Separately, the Portimão city council opened applications until 17 July for municipal sports technicians who will work in its facilities during the 2026/27 season. Candidates aged 18 or older with qualifications in physical exercise, Pilates, psychomotricity or swimming will lead activities such as functional training, senior fitness, DanceKids, HIIT, FitKids, hydro‑aerobics and health‑promotion programmes like "Diabetes em Movimento". Selected technicians will start on 16 September across several sport venues.

Both initiatives aim to promote active lifestyles, public health and community engagement across Portugal’s coastal municipalities.
