Portuguese towns roll out new community housing projects

The municipality of Santiago do Cacém awarded the construction of 24 cost‑controlled homes in Cercal do Alentejo, part of a local effort to increase affordable housing.

In Alcanena, officials presented a CoLiving community‑housing model and accelerated a programme to deliver more than 300 homes under the national Recovery and Resilience Plan. The project, linked to the EU’s New European Bauhaus initiative, aims to combat rural depopulation, attract younger residents and provide shared‑space living for the community.
