Triathlete Tiago Rodrigues, 23, was struck by a 24‑year‑old driver who tested positive for cocaine while he was training near the Portugal‑Spain border. The impact caused fractures to his left clavicle and right wrist, severe neck lacerations and other injuries. He was initially taken to the Virgen de la Concha Hospital in Zamora, Spain, where he remained in intensive care. Portuguese military authorities later transferred him to the Hospital Militar in Porto for surgery on his right wrist. The accident forced him to miss the Ironman Barcelona scheduled for October and will require a rehabilitation period of three to six months. The driver violated a mandatory stop sign and is under investigation by Spanish police.
