Portuguese volunteers conduct humanitarian missions in Kenya, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau
Portuguese volunteer groups have completed various humanitarian and educational missions across several African nations. In Kenya, groups including ‘Tijolo a Tijolo’ and ‘Es-tu-dar’, linked to the Missionaries of the Consolata, worked in the Isiolo region. They renovated and equipped a pre-primary school in Chumviyere, installing solar lighting, plumbing, rainwater harvesting systems, and internet connectivity to support teachers and students.
In Mozambique, similar missions focused on creating educational and community spaces to improve local dignity and learning conditions.
Looking ahead, the ‘Missão África 2027’ initiative has been announced for Guinea-Bissau. Scheduled for March 2027, this mission is a collaboration between the ANA Association, the Military and Hospital Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, and Lions Clubs International. The operation aims to provide maternal-child, community, and ocular healthcare, supporting long-standing local assistance work led by Franciscan missionary Sister Valéria and the Catarina Troiani Association.
