Porvoo and Kuopio municipal boards announce new service and infrastructure decisions
In Porvoo, the Urban Development Board has selected Taxivirpi Oy as the operator for the Kyläkyyti service for the period of November 2026 to November 2027. Taxivirpi Oy provided the lowest bid at 505,954 euros, compared to Rapiditaxi Oy’s bid of 637,873 euros. Additionally, the board approved a zoning change in Tarmola to allow for a commercial building, which is planned by Osuuskauppa Varuboden-Osla Handelslag to include a grocery store and fuel services.
In Kuopio, the City Board approved a joint statement from the Kuopio urban region regarding the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency’s 2026–2034 program. The statement emphasizes the importance of improving accessibility in Eastern Finland, specifically regarding the Savo rail line and highways 5 and 9. It also highlights concerns regarding insufficient funding for basic road maintenance and its potential impact on regional vitality and security of supply.
Furthermore, Hilja Hoffren has requested to resign from her positions in the city council, city board, and the environment and construction board due to moving away from the area.
