Positano: A historic terraced town on Italy's Amalfi Coast

Positano is a terraced town located on the Amalfi Coast in the Campania region of Italy. Built into the steep slopes of the Lattari Mountains overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, the town is characterized by colorful pastel houses and narrow alleys that require navigating many stairs.

As part of the UNESCO World Heritage Amalfi Coast, the town features significant historical landmarks, including the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, which has origins dating back to the 10th century. The settlement's history can be traced back to the 1st century BC.

Key coastal areas include the Spiaggia Grande and the more intimate Fornillo Beach, the latter of which is accessible via a scenic cliffside walk from the port. Local establishments, such as the Fratelli Grassi beach club, serve the area's tourism industry.
