Possible infant remains found in Alicante cemetery mass grave

Archaeological excavations at the Nuestra Señora del Remedio Municipal Cemetery in Alicante have concluded with the potential discovery of infant remains linked to a family from Petrer. The intervention, which took place between September 22 and October 16, involved the inspection of 58 burials in a mass grave.

The excavation was part of an investigation into alleged cases of stolen babies during the Franco dictatorship, prompted by complaints from the Association of Victims of Stolen Babies and Irregular Adoptions of Alicante (AVA). The Democratic Memory Prosecutor's Office of Alicante is overseeing the process.

A definitive identification has not yet been made. DNA testing has been requested to confirm whether the remains correspond to the child sought by the Petrer family.
