Post-harvest technology boosts Vietnamese agricultural exports
Post-harvest technology is becoming a critical factor in enhancing the quality and export potential of Vietnamese agricultural products. Goodlife Company, which exports over 5,000 tons of fruit annually—including dragon fruit, mango, coconut, and pineapple—has utilized advanced solutions to maintain product standards for markets such as Japan, South Korea, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Europe.
To combat quality loss and meet strict quarantine requirements, the company employs nanoplasma cleaning, Japanese hot steam heat treatment to control pests and mold, cold storage systems, and ethylene removal to slow ripening. These technologies have contributed to an annual export growth of over 30% for the firm.
Broadly, experts emphasize that the integration of science and technology is essential for moving highland specialties into modern value chains. Challenges remain regarding fragmented production, lack of standardized processes, and high post-harvest losses. Solutions focus on standardizing seeds, mechanization, deep processing, and digitalizing raw material areas to ensure traceability and market connectivity.
