Post Office reports rise in cash deposits as UK households budget for Christmas

The Post Office has reported an increase in personal cash deposit transactions, suggesting that UK households are budgeting early for the upcoming festive season. Between July and September, the organization handled over 17 million personal cash deposit transactions, representing a 7% increase compared to the previous year and a 3% increase from the prior quarter.

A survey of 2,000 people conducted by Censuswide indicated that 54% of those saving for festive spending are doing so earlier than usual this year. Additionally, 38% of respondents began planning for festive costs during the summer months.

Ben Hunter Woollard, head of banking at the Post Office, noted that customers are using cash as a tool to plan ahead and budget for specific costs during what is expected to be an expensive season. Postmasters have also observed increased activity from customers saving for gifts, family gatherings, and general household expenses.
