Post-vacation stress linked to increased risks of bruxism
The return to routine following vacations can trigger stress related to work, studies, and economic situations, which may manifest physically as bruxism. This condition involves clenching or grinding teeth, often during sleep or periods of intense concentration.
Psychologist Soledad Scarcella from Blua de Sanitas notes that attempting to immediately match pre-vacation productivity levels can lead to an accumulation of tasks and reduced rest, keeping the body in a state of high alert. This tension often results in mandibular tension, dental wear, sensitivity, and headaches.
While dental appliances like occlusion splints can protect teeth, experts emphasize that they do not replace the need to address the underlying emotional tension. Additionally, stress-related changes in habits, such as reduced brushing frequency or increased sugar consumption, can further impact oral health.
