Postal Service leader David Steiner faces scrutiny over mail voting restrictions

U.S. Postal Service leader David Steiner is facing scrutiny over his handling of President Donald Trump’s efforts to restrict mail-in voting. Steiner, who previously expressed skepticism regarding Trump’s leadership style during his tenure as a corporate executive, has been caught between executive orders and judicial rulings.

Following an executive order from Trump aimed at restricting mail ballots, Steiner moved to finalize implementing rules, maintaining that he had little choice as an agency of the executive branch. However, after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the effort, Steiner stated that work had ceased on a controversial government portal intended for voter rolls.

Steiner has declined to endorse the administration's orders as sound policy, asserting that his role is focused on implementation and deferring to the courts. This stance has drawn criticism from political figures, including Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, who accused him of allowing the agency to be used for political purposes.
