Poste Italiane expands public service hubs via Polis project

Poste Italiane is expanding its ‘Polis’ project, an initiative designed to enhance social and economic cohesion in Italian municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants. The project focuses on modernizing post offices to serve as hubs for public administration services, helping to combat the digital divide in smaller towns and rural areas.

Recent developments include the completion of renovations in several locations, such as Villa Cortese, Poggio Renatico, Quindici, and 19 offices across the province of Trapani. These modernized facilities feature eco-friendly lighting, low-impact environmental solutions, and improved accessibility, including dedicated lanes for the visually impaired and lowered counters.

Beyond traditional postal services, these offices now facilitate essential public administration tasks. Through agreements with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, citizens can request or renew passports directly at the counter. Other available services include civil status certificates, tax documents, and INPS services such as pension statements and the ‘OBIS M’ model.
