Poste Italiane faces criticism over service cuts in L'Aquila province
The CGIL trade union has denounced a significant reduction in postal services within the L'Aquila province, reporting a 25% decrease in operational post offices over the last 40 years. The number of branches has fallen from 212 to 159.
Union representatives claim a new corporate reorganization plan will further contract essential services by cutting 20 basic delivery lines and 9 business lines. This reduction is expected to impact residents in mountainous and remote areas, particularly elderly populations and those with limited mobility who rely on physical branches for financial and postal transactions.
The union warns that these cuts force postal workers to cover much larger distances within the same working hours, potentially lowering service quality and increasing workloads. CGIL has declared it is ready to mobilize in response to what it describes as the desertification of postal services in the region.
