Poste Italiane faces scrutiny over potential branch closures in Italy

Concerns are rising across several Italian regions regarding the potential closure or reorganization of Poste Italiane branches. In Castrovillari, Mayor Anna De Gaio has called for discussions following warnings from the UGL union about the possible suppression of the local branch. The Mayor emphasized that the branch serves as a vital organizational hub for the surrounding territory, including the Pollino area, and warned that its closure could negatively impact employment and service quality in a region requiring economic support.

In Sicily, political tension has emerged following the merger of the Enna and Caltanissetta branch directorates and the reclassification of certain postal offices. Member of Parliament Maria Stefania Marino has announced a parliamentary inquiry to seek guarantees on service continuity for citizens and businesses in these areas. Marino criticized efforts to minimize the risks associated with these changes, arguing that postal offices serve as essential community outposts that cannot be managed solely through organizational charts.
