Poste Italiane reports digital shift among elderly pensioners
Poste Italiane is reporting a significant digital shift among elderly pensioners in various Italian regions. In the province of Ferrara, an increasing number of citizens over 65 are opting to receive pensions via digital methods such as Conto BancoPosta, Libretto di Risparmio, or Postepay Evolution, rather than withdrawing cash. In several municipalities within the Ferrara area, the rate of digital pension credit has reached 100%.
Similarly, in the Palermo area, 97% of pensioners over 65 have transitioned to digital credit. Specific offices in towns like Bompietro, Lascari, Roccapalumba, and Torretta are approaching a 100% adoption rate. In Palermo, more than 8,000 individuals over the age of 80 are now using the Poste Italiane mobile app.
Despite the rise in digital transactions, physical post office branches remain essential service hubs. Customers continue to visit in person for a wide range of services, including savings management, payment services, and the Polis project, which facilitates requests for passports and public administration certificates. The data suggests that with support from counter operators, older generations are gaining greater autonomy and confidence in managing their finances through new technologies.
