Poste Italiane reports surge in digital pension payments
Poste Italiane reports a significant shift toward digital pension payments in several Italian provinces. In the province of L'Aquila, specifically in the localities of Colli di Monte Bove and Poggio Cinolfo, 100% of pensioners served by local post offices have opted for direct credit via BancoPosta accounts, savings books, or Postepay Evolution rather than cash withdrawals.
A similar trend is observed in the province of Viterbo, where nine post offices—including those in Bassano in Teverina, Castel Cellesi, Gradoli, Proceno, Roccalvecce, San Michele in Teverina, Tessennano, Torre Alfina, and Trevinano—have reached a 100% digital credit rate for pensioners.
Data indicates that digital adoption is increasing among older demographics. In Viterbo, over 2,000 individuals aged 80 and older use the “P” mobile application to manage services. In L'Aquila, more than 500 people over the age of 80 utilize the app. While digital tools are growing, physical post offices remain essential hubs for public administration services, savings management, and payment processing.
