Poste Italiane sees rise in digital pension payments among elderly
Elderly citizens in several Italian regions are increasingly adopting digital banking tools provided by Poste Italiane. Data indicates a growing trend among those over 65 to receive pension payments via direct credit to accounts such as Conto BancoPosta, Libretto di Risparmio, or Postepay Evolution, rather than opting for traditional cash withdrawals.
In the Molise region, 18 post offices reported that all pensioners in certain municipalities, including Casalciprano, Castropignano, and Limosano, have chosen digital credit. Additionally, over 2,000 residents over the age of 80 in Molise regularly use the Poste Italiane mobile app, with some municipalities showing particularly high digital engagement.
Similarly, in the province of Frosinone, municipalities such as Falvaterra, Valleluce, and Cerreto di Vallerotonda have reached a 100% rate of pensioners choosing digital credit over cash. While digital usage is rising, physical post offices remain essential service hubs, offering diverse functions through the Polis project, including passport applications and public administration certificates.
