Poste Italiane service changes spark union protests in Italy
Labor unions, including SLC CGIL and SPI CGIL, are protesting recent service changes and closures implemented by Poste Italiane in various Italian regions.
In Pulsano, the temporary closure of the post office on Via degli Orti due to the Polis project has forced residents to use the Leporano branch. Unions expressed concern for the 11,000 residents, particularly the elderly, who may face difficulties accessing pension collections and postal savings services. The Leporano facility is noted as being smaller and located in a pedestrian-only area, complicating access.
In the Alta Val Trebbia region, the SPI CGIL is opposing the relocation of the Bobbio mail delivery center to Podenzano. The union argues that this consolidation will disadvantage local businesses and elderly citizens who rely on paper correspondence. They warned that delays in mail delivery could result in financial penalties for residents regarding payment deadlines.
