Poste Italiane to control TIM Brasil, calls Brazil a strategic 'jewel

The Italian telecom group Gruppo TIM (formerly Telecom Italia) approved a public tender offer by Poste Italiane, a mixed‑ownership company in which the Italian government holds 64% of the shares. After the transaction, Gruppo TIM will become privately held, with Poste Italiane as the new controlling shareholder.

TIM Brasil’s president, Alberto Griselli, said the company is not for sale and will emerge stronger within the larger group, adding that the new shareholder has already defined Brazil as a "jewel". In 2025, TIM Brasil contributed 46.8% of the group’s consolidated EBITDA, and the acquisition proposal describes the Brazilian market as a "strategic pillar of paramount importance".

The move aligns with the Italian government's strategy to create a national champion in strategic digital infrastructure, enhancing data sovereignty and control over key telecom and data‑center assets across Europe.
