Posti workers' walkout may delay paper mail in Finland

A walkout by employees at the Pasila post center in Helsinki may delay paper mail delivery by one to two days across Finland. Posti production director Mikko Hoikkala stated that the majority of workers at the center participated in the demonstration, which began during Wednesday's evening shift and continued through Thursday morning.

The impact is primarily limited to paper mail. According to Posti, services for consumer and business parcels, freight, early morning newspaper delivery, and health or security-related shipments continue to operate normally.

The protest is driven by ongoing change negotiations involving 637 permanent employees, which could result in up to 50 job cuts. Filip Djordjevic, chairman of the Pasila branch of the postal and logistics union, criticized the negotiations as excessive, citing increased work paces and previous overtime requirements. While Hoikkala acknowledged that overtime has occurred, he maintained that it has been temporary and typical for seasonal fluctuations.
