Postman Launches AI‑Ready API Assessment for Coding Agents

Postman's research team, after working with some of the world's largest API programs, identified a shift in API consumption: coding agents are now the primary audience, replacing human developers. Agents read only machine‑readable specifications, ignore documentation meant for people, and discard APIs they cannot automatically integrate.

To address this change, Postman introduced the AI‑Ready API assessment, a tool that evaluates how prepared an API is for consumption by coding agents. Providers can run the assessment on their own APIs to identify gaps in machine‑readability, documentation, and onboarding flows. The assessment highlights that while developers once manually evaluated, contacted support, and worked around missing information, agents now select alternatives automatically if an API is not properly prepared, potentially diverting traffic to competitors.

The implication for API providers is direct: an API that fails the assessment may lose integration opportunities to better‑prepared rivals, as agents will opt for APIs that meet their strict, machine‑only criteria.
