postmarketOS rebrands to Nura to emphasize device longevity

The Linux-based mobile operating system formerly known as postmarketOS has officially rebranded to Nura. The decision follows an eighteen-month selection process involving community contributions.

According to the development team, the previous name was difficult to pronounce across different languages, had inconsistent capitalization, and was too descriptive, which limited the project's scope and prevented trademark registration. The new name, Nura, was suggested by community member Davide Depau and is derived from the ancient granite structures known as nuraghe found in Sardinia, Italy. This name was chosen to symbolize stability and resistance to time, reflecting the project's core mission to extend the usable lifespan of mobile devices.

The project has migrated its official website to a '.eco' domain to align with its environmental focus on device longevity. While the rebranding includes a slight logo adjustment, users may still encounter the old name in some software components during the transition period.
