Post‑Meal Sleepiness Linked to Blood Sugar Spikes

Health experts warn that frequent drowsiness and weakness after eating may signal unusually high post‑meal blood‑sugar levels. Dr. Cecep Hermawan explained that a sharp rise in glucose within two hours of a meal is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, even for people who have not been diagnosed with diabetes.

To help moderate these spikes, doctors recommend simple physical activity after meals, such as walking or light stretching, which encourages muscle‑driven glucose uptake without relying heavily on insulin. Additional tips to stay alert include drinking enough water, splashing the face with cold water, sitting upright, choosing balanced portions with protein, fiber and healthy fats, getting fresh air, consuming moderate caffeine, and ensuring adequate nighttime sleep.
