Postural habits and sedentary work drive fatigue and neck pain

Sedentary work environments and poor posture are significant contributors to physical fatigue and cervical pain. When sitting for extended periods, the body often engages in continuous isometric muscle work to maintain spinal balance and combat gravity, leading to high energy consumption and exhaustion despite a lack of intense physical activity.

Specifically, office-related neck pain often stems from improper ergonomics, such as leaning the head forward or keeping screens too low. A 45-degree head tilt can increase the perceived weight on cervical vertebrae to over 20 kilograms, causing excessive strain on the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles. Issues like ‘text neck’ from smartphone use and inadequate sleep support further exacerbate these musculoskeletal tensions.
