Posture and movement impact mental state and physical health

Research suggests that physical posture and movement play significant roles in both mental state and physical health. A study from McGill University, published in the ‘British Journal of Psychology’, indicates that upright posture is associated with more positive moods and a greater tendency to take effective risks compared to a hunched posture.

Regarding physical health, experts note that standing for long periods at work may not offer significant benefits over sitting, as standing burns only slightly more calories per hour. Prolonged standing has also been linked to increased risks of varicose veins and venous ulcers. Instead, regular movement and short bursts of daily exercise are identified as the most effective ways to mitigate the risks associated with sedentary behavior.
