Potato industry sees growth through summits and training programs
The global potato industry is seeing significant developments in production, training, and market integration. In India, the second Global Potato Summit is scheduled for December 16–17, 2026, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Organized by Media Today Pvt. Ltd., the summit aims to connect various sectors of the value chain, including growers, seed companies, processors, and policymakers, to address fragmentation and improve market linkages for the world’s second-largest potato producer.
In the United Kingdom, GB Potatoes has opened applications for its 2027 Potato Industry Development Programme. Conducted in partnership with the British Potato Trade Association, the program offers early-career professionals training across England, Scotland, and London. The curriculum covers potato production, processing, seed breeding, and agricultural policy through site visits to industry leaders.
Additionally, the cultural significance of the crop is highlighted by National Potato Day on August 19, which celebrates the vegetable's role in diverse culinary traditions, such as West Bengal’s Aloo Posto and Kashmiri Dum Aloo.
