Potato Saturday festivals draw record crowds to Czech railways and museums
The Potato Saturday (Bramborová sobota) festival saw record-breaking attendance at the Zubačka rack railway in Kořenov. The event featured special services on the Tanvald–Harrachov line, utilizing historic locomotives including the T 426.003 and the 714.015. The surge in visitors led to significant crowding at the Kořenov station and on international passenger trains operated by Czech Railways.
In addition to the railway festivities, the event celebrated regional potato culture through traditional culinary offerings such as potato pancakes (bramboráky) and local specialties like 'sejkory'.
Parallel celebrations took place at the Veselý Kopec museum, which hosted a program focused on potato cultivation, breeding, and storage. Activities included workshops for children, potato-themed theater performances, and musical acts. The museum also collaborated with the Potato Research Institute to offer visitors various potato varieties and specialized storage bags.
