Potenza honors fallen police officer Giambattista Rosa

A commemorative ceremony was held at the Potenza Police Headquarters to honor Giambattista Rosa, a State Police Assistant who died 37 years ago. During the event, Potenza Police Chief Raffaele Gargiulo laid a laurel wreath at the memorial plaque for the fallen, which was provided by the Chief of Police.

The ceremony was attended by local officials, including the Vice Prefect of Potenza, the Deputy Mayor of Potenza, the Mayor of Avigliano, and provincial commanders of the Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza. Family members of Rosa, police officials, and representatives from the National Association of the State Police were also present to pay their respects.

Giambattista Rosa, originally from Filiano, joined the police in 1974 and was assigned to the Potenza Flying Squad. On January 19, 1989, he was critically injured in a collision between his service vehicle and a truck during a patrol. He passed away eight months later at the age of 34. Two of his three children eventually joined the police force.
