Potenza hosts Caravaggio’s Narcissus exhibition

The exhibition ‘Caravaggio. Narciso, il mito di un capolavoro’ opened on September 10 at the Museo Archeologico Provinciale in Potenza. The showcase features the celebrated painting ‘Narcissus’, attributed to Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, which is on loan from the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica in Rome. This marks the first time the work has been presented in the Basilicata region.

Curated by Fabrizio Carinci and Paola Nicita, the exhibition explores the evolution of the Narcissus myth from ancient traditions to contemporary interpretations. The event is a collaborative effort involving APT Basilicata, the Basilicata Region, the Ministry of Culture, and the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica. The exhibition will run until November 30.

The inauguration included a performance installation by Metamorfosi Danza titled ‘Narciso’, which uses movement and photography to examine the boundaries between identity and the gaze. Admission to the exhibition is free, though online reservation is mandatory.
