Potenza introduces accessible transit timetable displays

The Municipality of Potenza and the transport company Miccolis have launched a new model of timetable displays at urban transit stops. Designed using 'frugal design' principles, the project aims to combine simplicity, sustainability, and accessibility without incurring additional costs for the community.

The new displays utilize a hybrid system that integrates traditional paper schedules with digital tools. To ensure inclusivity for all users, the displays feature high-legibility fonts and high color contrast, which assist individuals with dyslexia or color perception difficulties.

For visually impaired users, the system incorporates NaviLens technology. This allows passengers to use their smartphones to scan color codes from a distance, enabling access to information through voice commands. This approach is intended to bridge the gap between digital innovation and traditional usage, ensuring that elderly citizens or those less familiar with technology are not excluded.
