Potenza transport link delayed over regional funding dispute
A new mechanized transport system intended to connect Via Cavour with Potenza's historic centre is at risk of remaining unused. The project, costing more than €10 million, is slated for completion by the end of October, according to Mayor Vincenzo Telesca. However, the municipality cannot cover the additional operating expenses without regional funding, meaning the link cannot be opened.
Councilor for the Budget Roberto Falotico warned that unless the Basilicata regional president, Bardi, releases the promised funds, the city will be unable to sign the contract with transport operator Miccolis by early September. Without a public‑transport operator, the €10.8 million investment could be wasted, despite the inclusion of a double elevator, 400 parking spaces, and other infrastructure improvements.
