Potiguara indigenous artisans join Black Artists Fair in João Pessoa

Artisans from the Potiguara indigenous people have joined the Black Artists Fair (Feira de Artistas Pretas e Pretos) in João Pessoa. The event takes place every Saturday at 3:00 p.m. on Avenida General Osório in the city's Historic Center.

Supported by the João Pessoa Cultural Foundation (Funjope), the initiative features indigenous gastronomy and crafts, including products such as honey and cocada. According to Marcus Alves, executive director of Funjope, the inclusion of these artisans is part of a broader municipal effort led by Mayor Leo Bezerra to revitalize and value the Historic Center through cultural activities and urban restoration.

Fátima Sousa, curator of Feira Preta PB, noted that making the fair a permanent weekly event was a long-standing goal driven by both organizers and tourists, viewing the partnership as a means of strengthening local cultural growth.
