Potrero de Yala Park conservation agreement signed by Ministry and UNJu

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the National University of Jujuy (UNJu) have signed a technical cooperation agreement to strengthen the conservation and management of Potrero de Yala Park. The partnership aims to utilize scientific knowledge and professional expertise to protect the park's biodiversity, soil, and natural resources.

Potrero de Yala serves as a critical water source, providing approximately one-third of the local water supply. Environment Minister Leandro Álvarez emphasized the need to protect this high-quality water source, as well as the park's visitors and wildlife. A key component of the initiative involves managing grazing practices to mitigate their impact on soil health and water catchment capabilities.

The project includes a Sustainable Livestock Management Plan led by engineers Ezequiel and Omar Medina. UNJu Rector Mario Bonillo noted the strategic importance of the park for protecting the Yungas ecosystem and maintaining its role as a vital water reservoir.
