Potsdam CDU Mittelstandsunion faces backlash over controversial social media post
The Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion (MIT) Potsdam, an affiliate of the CDU, has sparked significant outrage following an Instagram post containing the phrase “Judenfrage geklärt” (Jewish question settled). The post featured an AI-generated image of Berlin’s Rotes Rathaus modified with a hammer and sickle and minarets in Palestinian flag colors.
The graphic was published in the context of political exploratory talks in Berlin involving the SPD, Greens, and the Left party. MIT Potsdam chairman Jan Jacobi criticized the negotiating parties for allegedly abandoning political boundaries with the Left.
The Junge Christlich-Demokratische Arbeitnehmerschaft (Junge CDA) has called for an official apology and personnel consequences. While CDU state leader Jan Redmann distanced himself from the post, he rejected allegations that the content was explicitly antisemitic.
