Potsdam housing development faces rising costs and demand
Potsdam is facing ongoing housing challenges as the city grows, prompting new construction initiatives. ProPotsdam has announced plans to begin building 600 new apartments this year, with a focus on northern areas including Golm, Marquardt, and Krampnitz. These developments aim to provide various housing formats, including larger units for families.
However, rising costs remain a significant barrier. According to ProPotsdam, construction costs in August increased approximately three times faster than the general inflation rate. This surge affects both new builds and the maintenance of existing properties, complicating the ability to provide affordable housing for residents with steady incomes.
In the Golm district, specifically at the University of Potsdam campus, the new 'Golm 2' residential complex has been completed. This facility provides over 200 apartments across 14,500 square meters of net floor area. The project utilized high-efficiency window systems designed for thermal insulation and weather protection, featuring specialized glazing and aluminum-look finishes to meet modern energy and aesthetic standards.
