Potsdam initiates removal proceedings against official Bernd Rubelt
In Potsdam, a formal process to potentially remove Building Commissioner Bernd Rubelt has been initiated after 29 city council members and Mayor Noosha Aubel signed the motion. A final decision on his removal requires a two-thirds majority, or at least 38 votes, and could occur as early as November 4. The conflict stems from Rubelt attending an event where climate change skepticism was expressed, leading to accusations that he failed to sufficiently distance himself from those views.
Separately, the Potsdam City Council is convening to discuss local issues including heat protection, public transport connectivity in Uetz, and a renewed push for smoke-free bus stops.
In regional infrastructure news, Brandenburg Transport Minister Robert Crumbach is calling for improved relief for commuters during the extensive renovation of the Berlin-Hannover rail line. The project, scheduled from October through December 2027, involves rerouting long-distance trains, which is expected to increase travel times by approximately 80 minutes. Crumbach has requested that DB InfraGO provide replacement bus services starting from Nennhausen to minimize the burden on passengers.
