Pouleth Carbajal completes solo English Channel swim

Pouleth Estefanía Carbajal Cuero, a 24-year-old swimmer from Manzanillo, Colima, has become the first person from her state to swim the English Channel solo.

Starting from Shakespeare Beach in England at 2:12 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, Carbajal completed the 65.3-kilometer crossing to Wissant Beach in France. Her unofficial time was 14 hours and 8 minutes. During the swim, she navigated challenging conditions, including water temperatures between 17 and 22 degrees Celsius, strong currents, and high waves.

Carbajal was supported by a team including her coach Sandra Venegas Ortiz, observer Karina Almanza, her mother Gabriela Cuero, and boat captain Paul Foreman. This achievement also places her among the youngest women globally to complete the crossing.
