Poultry industries in Cuba and Argentina report production shifts

The poultry sectors in Cuba and Argentina are reporting distinct developments in production and economic strategies. In Pinar del Río, Cuba, the Empresa Avícola de Pinar del Río (Pican) is working to recover its role as a national leader in egg production despite previous challenges with animal feed deficits and input shortages.

To revitalize its economy, Pican has implemented 176 transformations, including leasing farms to private producers, renting transport, and commercializing byproducts like poultry manure. The company has also tripled salaries for its employees to boost motivation and productivity.

In Argentina, the poultry industry is marking World Egg Day with strong efficiency indicators. According to the Cámara Argentina de Productores e Industrializadores Avícolas (CAPIA), the sector is projected to reach a production of approximately 440 eggs per capita in 2026. The industry anticipates global turnover for laying poultry to exceed US$ 2.2 billion this year, supported by a production fleet expected to reach 67 million birds.
